Opt for small braids, box braids, bantu knots, and twist-outs, to keep your hair looking amazing and avoid having to regularly re-style it. For the best results, try not to have the style too tight, opt for two weeks styled, and give it a one-week break before re-styling. Protect your hair while you sleep Protecting your hair while you sleep is important for all hair types, but coily hair especially! We recommend a silk or satin pillowcase (also great for your skin btw!) or a silk/satin bonnet. This will help protect your fragile strands from abrasion, and also help prevent moisture loss (cotton is a great material when worn on the body, but it can absorb the moisture from your skin and hair whilst you sleep).  Protect your hair from the heat Heat is rarely good for your hair, regardless of your hair type. We all know that washing your hair on a daily basis can be damaging: it strips the hair and scalp of its natural oils, whilst hot water can exacerbate dryness. We recommend following a haircare routine where you wash your hair every 3 to 4 days, or longer if you can hold it out.  But how do you keep your hair looking, feeling and smelling fresh between washes? And how do you keep hair fresh after a workout without washing it? We’re giving you six tips on how to keep your hair fresh and how to make your hair smell good between washes! 6 tips to keep your hair looking fresh between washes 1. Revive & nourish dry ends  With the use of styling tools between wash days, the ends of your hair can end up looking a bit dry. Use a lightweight Leave-In Conditioner to re-hydrate between washes and detangle your hair before combing or brushing. Spray the Leave-In from an arm's length distance onto the mid-lengths of your hair down to the ends, combing through to ensure it is evenly dispersed. To add shine to dull second-day hair, opt for our Honey Infused Hair Oil. You can use the Hair Oil daily to control frizz, enhance shine, smooth the hair’s cuticle and provide an extra boost of moisture and nourishment. U or C-shaped follicles tend to be the curliest, whilst slightly bent follicles will produce a more wavy result. The angle at which your hair penetrates the scalp is also important, straight hair tends to be vertically in the scalp, whilst curly hair tends to grow at an angle that makes the hair curve and bend as it grows. Curly and coily hair is more delicate than straight hair due to the shape of the hair strand. The spiral shape means the cuticle tends to be slightly lifted, which makes it more susceptible to damage, and more likely to lose moisture. On top of that, our natural oils cannot travel down the hair strand as easily as they can with straight hair, once again leaving curly to coily hair dry towards the ends. As a result, curls are more easily damaged and dehydrated than straight hair. Hair Care Routine for Curly Hair  1. Pre-Shampoo Treatment for curly hair Pre-shampoo treatment is an amazing option for our curly gang. This detangles the hair, helps prevent moisture loss whilst washing, and prevents frizz.  You can do a simple pre-shampooing treatment by applying our Honey Infused Hair Mask or Honey Infused Conditioner to dry hair, leaving it on for 20 to 30 minutes before following up with your usual washing routine.  2. Gentle cleanse The next step is to cleanse. Washing your hair will leave your hair and scalp feeling clean, removing any products, grease, dirt and dead skin cells which might have built up.  Opt for a gentle, sulfate-free moisturizing shampoo, like our Honey Infused Hair Wash. While some hair types can handle shampoos which contain sulfates, those with curly hair should definitely avoid it! Sulfates can strip the hair of natural moisture, leaving it dry, and you guessed it - frizzy.  3. Mask & Condition  Hydration will help keep your curls shiny, bouncy and defined, and a nourishing hair mask is the perfect way to give your hair a hydration boost. After shampooing, follow up with the Honey Infused Hair Mask for a deep conditioning treatment. When your hair is wet it can more easily absorb the product giving an even more hydrated result. Curly hair tends to be more fragile, so any kind of pulling or tugging at your curls can result in breakage. Do this by gathering all of your hair on top of your head and wrapping it up in a cotton t-shirt or hydrophilic towel. You can then leave it there to dry completely. This will help enhance your natural curl pattern as your hair dries, leaving you with more defined, bouncy curls.  Air-drying curly hair can result in an overload of frizz if not done correctly. You can choose to apply the Leave-in Conditioner or Primer before putting it up to give added moisture and hold as your hair dries. Style  One of the most frequently asked questions is how to style curls. Too much styling can ruin your curl pattern and damage the cuticle, causing it to lose its strength and elasticity. How you’re damaging your hair & how to prevent hair damage Heat & sun damage This may seem obvious, but heat is one of the main ways most of us damage our hair. Whether it's styling tools, hot water or even the sun, heat strips the hair of moisture, lifting and cracking the hair’s cuticle, making it more vulnerable to breakage.  Prevent damage from heat by: Using heat protection before heat styling such as our Propolis Infused Heat Protecting Spray which protects the hair up to 230ᵒC/446ᵒF. Using heat tools that have a wide range of heat settings and using the lower settings when possible. We can’t all be blessed with thick, luscious locks. Many of us have to find ways to make fine or thin hair work, even though it often refuses to hold curls, easily falls flat, and can get oily real quick.  Fine or thin hair often requires a different routine and specific hair care products for fine hair. But first, let’s talk about the difference between fine and thin hair! What is fine hair? Having “fine” hair means that your individual hair strands are thin in diameter as opposed to thick hair which has coarse strands. To know if your hair is fine, simply take a strand of hair and lay it on a table next to a piece of sewing thread. If your hair is much thinner than the thread, you probably have fine hair. If it is almost the same as the thread then it is medium, and if it is the same or thicker than the thread then your hair is coarse.  The difference between fine hair and thin hair Fine hair can sometimes be confused with “thin” hair, which means that your hair may have fewer strands of hair on your head resulting in less volume. Here are some of our best tips: Sleep on a silk pillowcase. Silk reduces friction and is less likely to damage your hair as you twist and turn your head throughout the night, often causing that “bedhead” look you want to avoid. It keeps your hair soft and healthy. Wash with cool or cold water. This helps your hair and scalp to retain natural oils, which keeps the scalp and hair hydrated and healthy. Use a brush with soft or gentle bristles that doesn’t tug at the hair. Also try to avoid brushing your hair when it’s wet and always use a lightweight leave-in conditioner before brushing through.  Air dry your hair to 75% before blow drying. This will shorten the drying time as well as minimize heat damage.  Limit the use of heated styling tools. Try some heatless curling techniques if you do want curls but don’t want to damage your hair.  Don’t tie your hair too tight and use silk hair ties. This will avoid unnecessary breakage.
