Gisou Bee Season '23: Bringing the Mirsalehi Bee Garden To L.A.
Bee Season is celebrated yearly at Gisou and is a central part of our core mission, to raise awareness around the importance of honey bees to our ecosystem. During Bee Season, as the days become longer and warmer, the honey bees get ready for a busy season of work.
At Gisou, we mirror this season of awakening in all of our efforts led by Founder Negin Mirsalehi and her sister (and Gisou Beekeeper-in-Chief), Negar. From spending weekends in the Mirsalehi Bee Garden looking after the bees and harvesting excess honey, to our activations around bee awareness, we continually strive to honor beekeeping traditions that have been passed down in the Mirsalehi family for six generations.
Gisou Bee Season 2023
Our celebration kicks off on April 11th and culminates at the end of September, which is Honey Month. To continue our commitment to sustainably-sourced honey, we’re also debuting a new Bee Garden in The Netherlands in 2023. This new space will also be used for educational purposes, events and Gisou activations such as workshops and training opportunities for new beekeepers and those interested in learning about beekeeping practices.
Taking Gisou Bee Season to L.A.
We’re excited to announce that we’ll be kicking off this year’s global Bee Season celebration by bringing the Mirsalehi Bee Garden to Los Angeles. Our community will be able to meet Negin and have the chance to be part of a one-of-a-kind customization experience centered around one of Gisou’s most viral launches — our Honey Infused Lip Oil, now at Sephora! We chose sunny California specifically for its optimal climate — mild and generally dry — which makes it a happy habitat for bees and ideal for year-round beekeeping.

The importance of the honey bees
Bees are critically important to the health and well-being of our planet. As pollinators, they play a vital role in the reproduction and survival of many plant species, including many of the crops that we rely on for food. Without bees, many of our favorite foods, such as apples, almonds, and coffee, would be much more difficult or even impossible to produce.
Additionally, bees help maintain the balance of many ecosystems, supporting the diversity of other wildlife and contributing to the health of the environment as a whole. Unfortunately, bees are facing significant threats from habitat loss, pesticide use, climate change, and other factors, highlighting the urgent need for conservation efforts to protect these crucial insects.
The Gisou Family Secret
For Negin and her sister Negar, growing up in a beekeeping family had one very distinct benefit: an abundance of the freshest, finest honey produced by Negin’s father. As a beekeeper’s wife and hairdresser, Negin’s mother discovered an innovative way to use this ultra-nourishing & moisturizing ingredient.
